Rui C. Antunes is a violinist and composer based in Leipzig. He regularly performs works by contemporary composers, including numerous world premieres, and is actively involved in commissioning new works for violin. Since March 2024, he has been a member of the Kairos Quartett. In addition, he collaborates with the Concrète [Lab] Ensemble (Lisbon, Portugal) and Ensemble Reflexion K (Eckernförde, Germany). He holds a teaching position for Contemporary Music Practice at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig.
In addition to his violin studies, Rui studied composition with Fabien Lévy at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig and conducts research on the topic of “Performance of Multiphonics on High String Instruments.” He completed his violin studies in 2021 with distinction under Prof. Friedemann Wezel, where he also studied with Carolin Widmann. Prior to that, he studied violin at the National Superior Academy of Orchestra (ANSO) in Lisbon.
Rui made his debut as a composer in 2016 and has since received numerous awards as both a violinist and composer. His music has been performed in Portugal, Spain, Germany, and Belgium.
